Reasons to be Thankful

Reasons to be Thankful

I’m sure we’ve all been through those days where it feels like you’ve hit rock bottom and things can’t get any worse. Maybe you’re struggling with family stuff, maybe school is really tough, or maybe you are having trouble adjusting to a big change in your life. No matter what the circumstance is, remember that God is with you. During those tough times, it can be really hard to turn to God and give thanks to Him. It always seems so much easier to praise and thank God when things in our lives are going well, but really we should be doing it all the time.

In the Bible, Daniel faced the choice of either praying to God or suffering in the lions’ den. He could have easily blamed God for everything and just gone about his life, but instead he got down on his knees and prayed and gave thanks to God three times a day, just like he had before. Therefore, he was thrown into the lions’ den but God didn’t let anything harm him. I Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Daniel still found a way to thank God even when his life was at risk.

No matter how bad things might seem, there is always a reason to be thankful. It’s easy for us to go through and list everything that’s going wrong in our lives. But sometimes we forget to list all of the good things that we do have. I know if I sat down and made a list of everything that God has given to me for my good, it would be so much longer than the list of everything that I feel is going wrong in my life. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.” He works everything out for your good and that is always a reason to give thanks. If God was not in control of our lives, our list of negative things would become so much longer. Just the fact that God is always with us should be enough reason to be praying without ceasing.
