Katie Mayhew: When and where?
Zach Thurow: June 1, 1999, in Spokane, Washington.
KM: Desert island, three things. What are they? ZT: A Bible, unlimited paper, pencils, and erasers… and goldfish.
KM: Can you explain your obsession with goldfish? ZT: Haha. Okay. So all throughout grade school I loved goldfish so much I ate them everyday. I got so addicted to them that if I went a day without them I’d get a headache. Now I don’t eat them as much, but I can only go for about a week without them.
KM: What are your plans for after high school? ZT: Back here for teaching. So I can be poor.
KM: Favorite high school memory? ZT: Freshman year, C-team basketball. We had to change in what looked like jail cells in Whitehall, and our wonderful managers gave us girls’ uniforms. Also, sophomore year, the night before graduation, Phil, Dwight, and I showered at three in the morning. Then Dwight and I sat, literally sat, in the shower and just talked for like an hour.
KM: Tell me one thing we don’t know about you.
ZT: I’m short because I didn’t get enough oxygen when I was born. I didn’t even cry until I got home from the hospital.
KM: Any advice for the youngsters? ZT: Be as nice as possible to everyone. It’ll come back to repay you later. Also, don’t freak out about homework.
