What are You Thankful For?
What are you thankful for? It’s a simple question that we often don’t take the time to really think about.
It’s easy to answer this question with things such as family, food, or a vacation from school. In a country where these things seem so abundant (except for vacations from school, there never seem to be enough of those), we really don’t give a second thought to just grabbing a soda from the fridge or casually watching a movie with family.
Meanwhile, the people in Burundi, Africa, are also thankful for food. But then about 73% of their population is starving at any given point. Zimbabwe has the highest number of orphans per capita in the world. Any one of them would be very thankful for a loving family. And many children in Third World countries would be thankful for even a single day of school.
The people in these countries can be thankful for so much, and they don’t seem to take anything for granted. This brings new meaning to the things we can all be thankful for. We can thank God that we have food easily accessible, we have many people who love and care for us, and we get to go to a school that not only gives us an education, but also teaches us of God’s grace.
We’re all getting ready to go home for Thanksgiving, and as you sit to eat a big juicy turkey, someone will probably end up asking, “What are you thankful for?” Every one of us is blessed beyond belief, and this Thanksgiving we can thank our gracious God for all that He has given us. Every box of cereal, every family member or friend, and even every last day of school. Thanks to God for every single thing.
