In My Stupid Opinion...

I love Taco Bell. Let’s just get that out of the way. I love their food. I love how they make crazy food combos (Quesarito, Crunchwrap Supreme, Doritos Locos Taco, etc…), and I love(d) their logo. Sadly, there is a trend that is sweeping across America, a trend that I can understand, but not like. Simple Logos. You can see it happening in the past couple of years. Take, for example, Google. They took their old logo and changed it. They made a simple

change, but that change makes a lot of difference. The new logo looks friendlier and dumbed down. Google accepted that it is now a household brand everyone knows and uses (The only thing Bing and Yahoo are used for is looking up Google.com), and made it less fancy looking so it looks like it is for the common man. It is still unique, thanks to keeping the same colors and keeping the tilt of the “e.”

Taco Bell decided to give this a shot as well. On November 14, 2016, they introduced a new logo. It had been 21 years since they had changed their logo. I can understand why it had been that long. Their logo was awesome; I loved it. It was simple, but not overly simple. It had a good amount of color, and the bell had a perfect amount of detail. The font was good. It was unique, something they had made. Now, I agree that 21 years is a long time to have the same logo, but I do not like what they did to it at all. They took everything I loved from that old logo and just threw it out. They took away most of the detail on the bell, and only left enough to be able to tell it is a bell. They changed the colors, they took out some colors, and they made the font look like a default font on Google Docs. The new logo looks like an app on a phone, and I do not like that at all. A logo represents your company. It attracts people to your store. People see a yellow M hanging in th

e sky above everyone's head like a beacon leading everyone to a Valhalla filled with vats of oil and cheap food. When I see this new Taco Bell logo, I can only think of social media and clicking an app on a phone. Maybe that's what they were going for, but I don’t want that from the place where I can fill up on any kind of Mexican food I want. I don’t want to be thinking of instagramming my Cinnabon delights. I don’t want to think about tweeting about how I grew a beard by the time I got my food. I want food, and I want to enjoy it in the now, in the real world.

Again, I love Taco Bell. Executives in an office probably hired a professional who made dozens of logos and tested them out with different demographics of people, and it was approved by all the higher-ups in Taco Bell. So, in reality, I’m just an uneducated, riled up teenager who is still going to throw money at Taco Bell no matter what their logo looks like.
