A Farewell (Good Riddance?) to… Everything I Can’t Stand
I cannot stand many things at this school. Things that irk me. Provoke me to anger at times. In this article, I will bid good riddance to these things.
Small-School Drama- While being a small school is a positive in many ways, it also makes gossip and rumors spread like wildfire. In a large environment, you can be blissfully ignorant of various goings-on you’d rather not hear about or be involved in. But here, everyone finds out everything.
The Green Bus- Think we can fit 3 full-size boys’ basketball teams + managers + statkeepers + fans + coaches + gear comfortably on our school bus? NO NO NO NO, we actually cannot. Two words to consider in shopping for another bus: UNDERFLOOR STORAGE (or at least overhead racks).
Weeknight Prison- This is more for the dormies, but alas, I am a dormie. So. Would you like to go watch, say, a UW-EC basketball game with your friends on a Tuesday night? Sorry, can’t. How about Monday night football at a friends’ house? Nope. I’ve got study hall. Aren’t you about to be living on your own at college in a few months? Yep.
I will be happy to be rid of these things, among others, when I graduate in 88 (70-some by the time you read this) days. In spite of this, I will greatly miss this place. The classmates, profs, coaches, campus, and chapels. Choir concerts. Basketball games. Christmas readings. Just about everything, really. This is a really special place that is very rare in the world. Life here revolves around God. That may not be true of any school or workplace I’ll be in in the future. Everyone here shares that bond, and I know that I will never have as close of friends as the ones I have made here, because we share that common denominator. God will always be with me, but here, God is with US. That’s what I’m going to miss from Immanuel.
Love,
Jonathan Gamble
