Brussel Sprouts
I grocery shop at Aldi sometimes. I usually only get a few items there, though. These include tortilla chips, eggs, milk, fruit, and veggies that are on sale. Recently, Brussel sprouts were on sale. I wouldn’t say that they are my favorite vegetable, but I like just about anything green with a little butter and salt. As I was about to check out, I noticed that someone had discarded their bag of Brussel sprouts right by the checkout line. The bag was left in the Halloween candy section. I can only assume that someone had to make a choice - Halloween candy or Brussel sprouts?
That got me thinking, as my grocery trips often do. Isn’t life a series of choices between Brussel sprouts and Halloween candy - a choice between the green vegetables that we know are good for us and the sweet temptation of carbs and corn syrup? Too often we gravitate towards the impulse buy, the fleeting pleasure of the candy bar. Not able to have both, we cast aside those things that are better for us in the long run. Next time, buy the Brussel sprouts (as long as they are still on sale).
